Tai Sui in Lunar Year of Dragon 2012 (彭泰大将军)
Who is Tai Sui? In the Chinese mythology, the Grand Duke Jupiter or more commonly known as Tai Sui (太岁)) is actually a position in the celestial heavens which is in charge of the world's affairs for a particular year, i.e determining the annual fortunes of all of us mortal beings. The Taoist calendar is organized into a series of twelve "earthly branches" which rotate according to the five elements, resulting in a 60 year cycle. Hence, there are 60 heavenly generals who would rotate to take up this almighty position. A person's happiness, health, luck and fortune are all under his jurisdiction. It actually serves as a reminder to avoid misdeeds, to take good care of health and to carry out more charitable activities so that misfortune will not strike. He will note the good deeds and misdeeds of people.
Besides giving the necessary blessing and acting as a guardian to the Mortals, the different Tai Sui are used to mark the Lunar Year. In 2012, General Peng Tai (彭泰) takes over the helm from General Fan Ning who ruled over the year of 2011.

General Peng Tai - Grand Duke Jupiter of 2012 year of Ren Chen Water Dragon
The Great General Peng Tai was born during the Ming Dynasty and was known for his intelligence, honesty and integrity. He stayed true to his peasant childhood sweetheart even after he became an imperial court official and they both had a happy married life thereafter. His diligence and integrity brought him success and happiness and it is no fluke that he is in charge of the 2012, year of the Dragon-the ultimate symbol for success and happiness. Could this mean that we can expect to be well rewarded for our hard work and effort in 2012? No harm trying and may the celestial Dragon bring good luck to everyone!
Another more scientific school of thought simply attributes the Tai Sui phenomena to the movement of Jupiter (hence the name Grand Duke Jupiter), which affects the magnetic field around us, depending on the year you were born. This explanation usually bodes well with the western audience already educated with zodiac systems based on stars and planets.
Yet others have combined both schools of thoughts into one. It is believed the term “Tai Sui" is derived from the "Tai Sui Calendar System" of ancient China. "Sui" originally referred to Jupiter (木星), which was considered the leader of all stars. But it was quite inconvenient to calculate the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches based on the movement of Jupiter, so people created an imaginary star moving directly opposite to Jupiter and named it "Tai Sui". As time passes, the Tai Sui Star was personified and transformed from an imaginary star to a deity who has absolute command over worldly affairs.

Whatever your belief – whether Tai Sui is a deity or a phantom star (a “body of energy”), it pays to heed the location of the Tai Sui of the year so as not to inadvertently disturb him, or it. An offended Tai Sui will bring you misfortunes, from mild to the severe kind. In 2012, year of Ren Chen Water Dragon Year, the position of Tai Sui is at South East 1 ranging from 112.6 to 127.5 degrees. Thus those born in the year of the Dragon which sits on the same cardinal location of Tai Sui are said to be directly afflicted with Tai Sui whilst the Dog which is located in NW1 is in direct conflict with Tai Sui. Additionally, the Sheep (SW1) and Ox (NE1) are indirectly in conflict with Tai Sui as refer to the Tai Sui positions chart at below.

Tai Sui 2012 Position Chart
What this means is that you have incurred the wrath of Tai Sui (or in some kind of energy conflict with the ruling star, if you like) and remedial steps must be taken to appease him and preventive measures carried out to avoid further offending him. The basic rules to remember are:
- DO NOT sit facing or sleep with your head pointing to the direction of Tai Sui.
- AVOID construction work including repair work, in the Tai Sui location. If this sector is disturbed, those staying in the house will have a tough year ahead with a lot of arguments and sicknesses. If there is no choice but a serious need to work in this area, then avoid starting and ending in here. One can start in other sectors.
- Appease him by placing his pet, the Pi Yao in the affected sector or just wear the Pi Xiu pendant as an amulet.
- Carry protective amulets – sacred talisman from temples, Pi Yao, Tai Sui Image or Tai Sui Mantra. Everyone should carry one of this, whether or not your horoscope sign is in conflict with Tai Sui in a particular year because the Tai Sui changes direction every year and you may unknowingly sleep or sit facing him, which will also incur his wrath. Just think of it as a 24/7 bodyguard!
- Perform An Tai Sui or Pacifying Tai Sui ritual to neutralize influences and blessings, protection and good fortune throughout the year.
- Get help from your Zodiac secret friends and allies to overcome challenges, protect against harm and provide great strength for persistency.
