Description

This is an exquisite representation of the beautiful White Tara, one of the more popular forms of the savior Goddess Tara, worshiped for her compassion, love, and wisdom which in turn brings health, strength, and longevity. In this version, she is depicted sitting on a golden lotus seat, crowned with a jewel-encrusted tiara and adorned with the brilliant precious ornaments of various colors. In a posture of ease and readiness for action, her left leg is folded in the contemplative position whilst her right leg is gently outstretched, ever ready to spring into action at the slightest request. Her right hand is in the gesture of granting protection whilst holding a stem of a white lotus with pink hues.

The Goddess Tara is probably the oldest goddess who is still worshiped extensively in modern times. Tara, meaning Star in Sanskrit, originated as a Hindu goddess, the Mother Creator, representing the eternal life force that fuels all life. She later made the transition to Tibetan Buddhism and is believed to one of the most popular deities in the Tibetan pantheon today. There are many embodiments of Tara, but the best known are the White Tara and the Green Tara. The peaceful, compassionate White Tara gently protects and brings long life and peace. The more dynamic goddess, Green Tara is a fierce goddess who overcomes obstacles and saves us from physical and spiritual danger.

She represents the motherly aspect of compassion. Her white color not only indicates purity, but also indicates that she is true, complete, and undifferentiated.
