You could also activate these directions with Feng Shui enhancers to magnify the luck brought by the corresponding directions. The more you apply the Eight Mansion Formula to your daily lives, the more apparent you will notice its power and the good luck it brings you. Here is how you can harness this Formula to Feng Shui your way to a better life:

What is my KUA Numbers?

First of all, you need to know your KUA Number. Here is how you can manually calculate your KUA Number. Alternatively, refer to our 100 Year Chinese Lunar Calendar to easily find out your KUA Number.

1. If you are born in the year 1954 (Chinese Lunar Calendar) Add the last two digits of your year of birth e.g. 5 + 4 = 9

2. If this sum has two digits, reduce it by adding the two digits again until you arrive at a single digit e.g. 1977 so 7 + 7 = 14; then 1 + 4 = 5

3. For men, subtract the results from 10 e.g. for men born in 1954, it will be 10 - 9 = 1. Thus the KUA number is 1. For men born in 1977 their KUA number is 10 - 5 = 5

4. For women, add 5 to the results e.g. for women born in 1954, it will be 9 + 5 = 14; then 1 + 4 = 5 so the KUA number is 5. For women born in 1977 their KUA number is 5 + 5 = 10, then add 1 + 0 = 1.

The 4 Unlucky Directions

1. Ho Hai – Least Worst Direction
Though a negative direction attracting mishaps, setbacks and disappointments, the Ho Hai is your least worst direction of your four negative directions – or the best of the worst! Use it when all the lucky direction are not feasible. To quell Ho Hai luck, use the wood element. You can place plants or Green Aventurine Crystal Gem Tree in this direction where you are facing. Wear the Jade Disc with Rhodium Leaf Pendant Necklace or carry the Green Tara Prayer Wheel Amulet for protection.

2. Wu Gui – Illness & Losses
Meaning "Five Ghosts", this energy brings the aggravation of bad people in your life, people who gossip or plot against you, resulting in losses which can be financial, health and personal. Your 3rd worse direction, risks of theft, burglary, disharmony and minor illnesses are increased if you face this direction constantly or if your main door faces this direction. To suppress Wu Gui luck, use yin water as still water has the power to silence the five ghosts and may even cause the five ghosts to bring gold into the home. If you have to face this direction, place the Blue Rhino and Elephant or Blue Water Dragon in front of you or beside your bed. For protection on the go, carry the Blue Water Globe Talisman or Double Horn Water Blue Rhino Hum Keychain.

3. Liu Shar – Obstacles
Being the 2nd worse direction The "Six Killings" energy brings 6 types of bad luck in the form of accidents, wealth loss, illness, loss of reputation, loss of loved ones and death. The problems can be quite serious, thus you should try hard to avoid this direction. If you absolutely cannot, then subdue the Lui Shar luck with lots of earth energy. Keeping the area in this direction you are facing piled up or decorated with Crystal products. The presence of crystals and stones is always a good deterrent against the six killings energy of Eight Mansions Feng Shui.

4. Chueh Ming - Total Loss
As its name suggests, this is your worst direction practically in all matters. In brief, you will lose everything. This is the most harmful energy of all as it causes bankruptcy, long term illness, injury and disaster, in fact a state of total loss. Obviously, it is wise to avoid this direction but if you really cannot do so, please make sure to control the negative effect of the Chueh Ming luck with the presence of fire energy -bright lights and red décor, to counter the energy of total loss. Display the Red Ksitigarbha Fire Ball with Mantra or Red Fire Dragon in this direction if you have to face it. Carry the Fire Gold Talisman Keychain or Fire Protection Wheel Mirror of Avalokiteshvara for added measure. Do take the threat of Chueh Ming seriously, as its effects are very powerful.

What do I do with my KUA Number?

Basically, your lucky feng shui directions allow you to tap into the best, most potent energy; while the unlucky feng shui directions obviously do the opposite. Usually this information is applied in areas where you tend to spend most time, such as your bedroom and/or your office. If possible, position your bed so that the crown of your head is directed toward one of your lucky feng shui directions. The same applies to your office; see if you can position your desk to face a lucky feng shui direction.

That being said, it should be remembered that that general feng shui is always more important than personal feng shui. The information on lucky and unlucky feng shui directions is awesome and helpful, but way too often taken the wrong way. While knowing your lucky directions is sure good, understand this is not absolute as there are many aspects of feng shui to consider. If you get to face your good directions, well and good; but if you can’t, do not fret. Just install some cures as mentioned above and concentrate on other feng shui aspects such as Flying Stars or 8 Aspirations Trigrams. In fact, the essence of feng shui is to create an environment that makes you feel happy, balanced and harmonious.

As with most feng shui information, the lucky and unlucky feng shui directions info is there to help you, not to rule your life and cause you unnecessary worry.
