Description
This is a carry-along Tibetan wealth charm ideal for your car or house. It comprises two pieces of cloth-wrapped hardboard linked by a paper strip containing powerful mantras. One piece of the cloth is intricately woven with the image of the Four-Armed Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, whilst the other features the beautiful Tibetan OM MANI PADME HUM mantra. This exquisite amulet is encased in a plastic pocket for protection, adorned with decorative bells, and finished prettily with a multi-colored tassel.
Chenrezig, also known as Kuan Yin in Chinese and Avalokiteshvara (‘One who hears the cries of the world’) in Sanskrit is renowned as the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas. Legend has it that Chenrezig Avalokiteshvara vowed not to return to Nirvana until all living beings had been liberated from suffering. Two of his four arms are joined in the prayer position whilst his other left hand he holds a lotus flower and in his other right hand a string of prayer beads. In this 4-armed form, sitting in the full lotus posture, He represents the four immeasurable qualities of a Bodhisattva: love, compassion, joy, and equanimity.

OM MANI PADME HUM is probably the most famous mantra in Buddhism. It is the six syllabled mantras of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Chenrezig which has the power to bless the heart and mind of any who come into contact with it. Its special benefit is to uncover and foster the compassion innate in all beings. The Dalai Lama is said to be an incarnation of Chenrezig or Avalokiteshvara, so the mantra is especially revered by his devotees and it is commonly carved onto rocks and written on paper which is then inserted into prayer wheels to increase its effects.
The mantra OM MANI PADME HUM is easy to recite yet powerful because it contains the essence of the entire teachings of Buddha. Through contact with and, especially, a meditation on this mantra of compassion, positive qualities are developed and so, happiness naturally increases in one’s life. Here are some of the benefits traditionally ascribed to the six syllables of “OM MANI PADME HUM”:
OM | Increases Generosity |
MA | Increases Ethics |
NI | Increases Patience |
PAD | Increases Diligence |
ME | Increases Concentration |
HUM | Increases Wisdom |
