Description
This lovely incense burner is made of Purple clay or Zisha, a fine-textured and porous material found only in Yixing, China, giving rise to it being also known as Yixing clay. It features the head of Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, looking beautifully serene and benevolent.
The incense burner is used to burn incense, a ritual that has been practiced throughout history as one of the most popular methods to symbolically bless, clean, enhance and purify the atmosphere or Chi in a living or workspace. The aromatic smoke of the incense will enliven stale energy, create a sense of tranquility and produce Seng Chi, the intrinsic energy which brings good fortune. This burner can be used to hold both cones and standard incense sticks.
Guan Yin (Kwan Yin or Quan Yin) is one of the most universally beloved deities in the Buddhist tradition. Known by different names in different lands, such as Avalokiteshvara in the ancient Sanskrit language of India, Chenrezig in Tibet, and Kannon in Japan, Guan Yin is the embodiment of compassionate loving kindness. As the Bodhisattva of Compassion, she hears the cries of all beings. According to legend, Kwan Yin vowed to remain in the earthly realm and not enter the heavenly world until all living things had become enlightened and liberated from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. To symbolize this she is often pictured carrying the Pearl of Illumination.
It is believed that having the image of Guan Yin brings protection and blessings of peace, happiness, and safety.
