Seen virtually on every Buddhist shrine in Nepal, the Buddha Eyes (also known as Wisdom Eyes), is one of the oldest Tibetan symbols of unity of all things. This symbol represents the all-seeing eyes of the Buddha, a symbol of the omnipresent compassion of the Bodhisattvas. When you have the Buddha-eye, you look at life with that one vision that unites everything, unobscured and unhampered by emotions and habits. The small dot or mark between the eyes represents the third eye, a symbol of spiritual awakening. The nose is depicted by a question mark-like squiggle between the eyes which is the Sanskrit numeral one, symbolizing the unity of all things as well as the one way to reach enlightenment—through the Buddha’s teachings.
OM MANI PADME HUM is probably the most famous mantra in Buddhism. It is the six-syllable mantra of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan Chenrezig, Chinese Guanyin) that helps to achieve perfection in the practice of generosity, pure ethics, tolerance, perseverance, concentration, and wisdom. Mantras are actually powerful scriptures that invoke spiritual guardians or divine help in times of need and are sacred versions of positive affirmations that work wonders in times of uncertainty, danger, and weakness. This mantra has the power to bless the heart and mind of any who come into contact with it. Its special benefit is to uncover and foster the compassion innate in all beings. The mantra OM MANI PADME HUM is easy to recite yet powerful because it contains the essence of the entire teachings of Buddha. It is believed that saying the mantra (prayer), Om Mani Padme Hum, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. Viewing the written form of the mantra is said to have the same effect – hence it is often drawn or etched on various ornaments like this amulet, where people can see and enjoy its benefits.
Onyx is believed to be a powerful protection stone that absorbs negative forces and influences and transforms them into positive ones. It was believed to have the power to protect the wearer from harm and danger and thus was used to adorn the breastplates of warriors or was worn as an amulet in battle or in adventuring into strange places. A strength-giving stone, onyx brings balance to mind and body making it ideal to enhance self-control and promote wise decision making.
Many also find Onyx helpful in relieving stress and emotional stability and hence helping them sleep better. Onyx is also said to have been helpful to people who are trying to move on after a bad relationship or let go of past attachments. In the crystal healing realm, Onyx is beneficial to our hearing ability, eyes, bone marrow, bones, teeth, and immunity system.
