The Nasty Feng Shui Afflictions - 5 Yellow a.k.a. Wu Wang (五黄)
The Five Yellow or Wu Wang is one of the most deadly annual afflictions especially in years when it flies into Earth and Fire element sectors which enhance its vicious Earth energy. It is actually 1 of the 9 Flying Stars (飞星), described in Feng Shui as the movement of both positive, as well as negative energies within any given space and time. As the 5 Yellow occupies the Central Palace in the original Luo Shu square, it is not associated with any trigram (Kua), thus rendering it dangerously unstable and unpredictable. The fact that the 5 Yellow is often singled out for mention in defensive Feng Shui speaks volume of its infamous nature.
The flight of the 9 Feng Shui stars which is based on the pattern of numbers in the Luo Shu Square, changes positions every 20 year and on an annual, monthly and even daily basis. However, for practical Feng Shui application, the Annual and Monthly Flying Stars are of greater significance. The yearly Flying Star updates serve as an important indicator of the potential events of the year ahead whilst the monthly forecasts help with timing, suggesting when to attempt something and when to lie low. Hence it is important to take note of the positions of these Flying Stars so that we can be prepared accordingly, whether armed for protection or ready for activation. Given the volatility of the Five Yellow and its Flying Star status, it is wise to stay up to date on its area of influence not only annually but on a monthly basis. (Refer to our Monthly Flying Star Forecast for updates)
The annual location of the 5-Yellow Star (or for that matter, each of the Flying Stars) is determined by the flight progression based on the Luo Shu, but in a descending order. This means the sector housing the 5 Yellow this year will be occupied by the # 4 Star next year whilst the home of #6 this year will house the 5 Yellow next year. Once the location of the Wu Wang has been determined, it is time to get into defence mode and start planning on ways to avoid or exhaust the malicious energy of this evil star. This is especially imperative if important areas of your house are afflicted – main entrance, bedroom or living room and those who share the same animal direction of the 5 Yellow. For instance, in 2012, the 5 Yellow flies into South East, creating problems for the Dragon and the Snake as well as anyone who spends a lot of time in the South East. The consolation, if any is that the 2012 Wu Wang is a relatively weak force compared to the years when it flew into Earth or Fire element sectors as in 2010 when it was in the South West, an Earth Sector.
Due to the vicious and volatile nature of the Five Yellow, it is best to avoid using or having any activity in the sector where it resides. Planning to renovate your home or cutting down that big tree in the garden? Check to make sure the Wu Wang is not in the affected sector. If disturbed, its malicious influence can bring disastrous financial and health problems such as lawsuits, bankruptcy and critical illnesses. If you have to proceed with your renovation plan, please consult a Feng Shui professional to select a good date to start work as this can minimize the negative effects.
Understandably, it is also not always practical or even possible to relocate your main door or change your bedroom. So if you have no choice but to use the afflicted area, the best way is to neutralize and suppress the wrathful energy by using remedies based on the 5 Element Theory. Wu Wang is an Earth element affliction. This means items representing Fire, Earth and yang Water which will activate and enhance the evil Earth energy, must be avoided or removed from the afflicted sector. No bright lights, no crystal/porcelain/stone objects, no bubbling water features here, please. Instead, stack up on Metal element items to exhaust the Earth energy of the 5 Yellow. These can be in the form of actual metals such as iron, brass or copper, metallic colors like gold, silver, white or round shapes to symbolize Metal. Metal wind chimes are common cures for earth-afflicted energy. In selecting a metal wind chime, choose one with 6 metallic rods as the number six symbolizes Heaven or Chien which can overcome the negative effect of Wu Wang, Other metal cures to pacify the Wu Wang includes metal bells (5 Element Bell), brass bowls, singing bowls and gold coins. More innovative remedies which have also proven to be effective are using 6 six golden CDs to pacify Wu Wang and putting some earth from the sector where the 5 Yellow is located into a metal container with a tight-fitting lid.
However, the most potent antidote to neutralize or counteract the disastrous energy of the 5 Yellow has to be the traditional 5 Element Pagoda. Usually made of heavy brass, it is specially designed with a stack-up of 5 different shapes to represent the 5 Elements (the foundation of Feng Shui studies) and has numerous compartments to imprison the malicious earth energy. Just fill the compartments with earth, sand or crystal chips and screw the top back on again. This symbolically locks up the 5 Yellow and prevents it from creating mischief and havoc. Below are the complete range of Five Element Pagoda you could find in our store.
For those whose animal signs are afflicted with the 5 Yellow or who spend a lot of time in the afflicted sector, it is important to always stay protected against this vile star with carry-along such the 5 Element Pagoda amulets, pendants and key chains.
Do not underestimate the power and aggression of the Wu Wang. It can be deadly when it hits you. If you cannot avoid it, try not to disturb it. Peace and quiet together with metal cures in the afflicted area can keep its negative influences at bay. Take the initiative to protect yourself and your loved ones from calamities and misfortune brought by this vicious star. Better safe than sorry.
